May 3 2024: On Friday, Japan’s stock market closed with losses as the Transport, Marine Transport, and Warehousing sectors dragged down shares.
The Nikkei 225 ended the session down by 0.10% in Tokyo.
Among the top performers on the Nikkei 225 were Kansai Electric Power Co Inc (TYO:9503), which climbed 4.98% or 119.00 points to 2,510.00 by the close. Sumitomo Corp. (TYO:8053) also saw gains, rising 4.37% or 180.00 points to finish at 4,300.00, while J.Front Retailing Co., Ltd. (TYO:3086) was up 3.68% or 50.50 points, closing at 1,422.50.
However, the session’s worst performers included Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co Ltd (TYO:4506), which fell 6.75% or 27.00 points to 373.00 at the close, and CyberAgent Inc (TYO:4751), declining by 4.09% or 40.20 points to 942.20. Mazda Motor Corp (TYO:7261) also experienced a drop of 3.24% or 58.00 points, ending at 1,730.00.
There were no advancing stocks compared to falling ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
Kansai Electric Power Co Inc (TYO:9503) reached 5-year highs with a 4.98% rise to 2,510.00, while Sumitomo Corp. (TYO:8053) reached all-time highs, gaining 4.37% to 4,300.00.
The Nikkei Volatility, measuring the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, increased by 0.93% to 20.66.
In commodities trading, crude oil for June delivery saw a 0.23% increase to $79.13 a barrel. Brent oil for July delivery rose by 0.22% to $83.85 a barrel, and June Gold Futures gained 0.03% to $2,310.20 a troy ounce.
The USD/JPY pair was down 0.35% at 153.10, while EUR/JPY fell 0.28% to 164.34. The US Dollar Index Futures remained nearly unchanged at 105.14, down by 0.03%.
