Jan 2 2025: Taiwan’s stock market ended lower on Thursday, with the Taiwan Weighted Index falling 0.67% as losses in the Construction and Glass sectors weighed on overall performance.
Among the top performers, Fortune Oriental Co Ltd (TW:2491) gained 9.72%, adding 1.20 points to close at 13.55. Chung Fu Tex-International Corp (TW:1435) rose 8.48%, finishing at 35.80, while Microelectronics Technology Inc (TW:2314) climbed 7.63% to reach 40.20 by the end of the session.
Conversely, the session’s worst performers included Formosa Oilseed Processing Co Ltd (TW:1225), which dropped 10.00% or 4.55 points to close at 40.95, hitting a three-year low. JSL Construction & Development Co Ltd (TW:2540) slid 7.40% to 92.60, and Fortune Information Systems Corp (TW:2468) fell 7.28% to 24.85.
Microelectronics Technology Inc (TW:2314) reached a 52-week high, rising 7.63% or 2.85 points.
In the commodities market, crude oil for February delivery edged up 0.26% to $71.91 per barrel, while Brent oil for March delivery rose 0.23% to $74.81. February Gold Futures increased by 0.15% to $2,644.85 per troy ounce.
On the currency front, USD/TWD fell 0.02% to 32.86, and TWD/CNY was steady at 0.22. The US Dollar Index Futures dipped 0.10% to 108.19.
