Dec 23 2024: Taiwanese equities fell sharply on Monday, with the Taiwan Weighted Index closing 1.84% lower. Losses in the Oil, Gas & Electricity and Plastic sectors were primary contributors to the decline.
Leading the session’s gainers was Aurotek Corp (TW:6215), which surged 9.99%, adding 7.60 points to close at 83.70—an all-time high for the stock. KYE Systems Corp (TW:2365) followed with a 9.93% increase, gaining 4.20 points to end at 46.50. Tai Twun Enterprise Co Ltd (TW:3432) also saw a strong performance, rising 9.84% or 1.55 points to 17.30.
On the losing side, Bonny Worldwide Ltd (TW:8467) led the declines, falling 9.99% or 34.50 points to 311.00. Shin Tai Industry Co Ltd (TW:1235) dropped 9.95% or 10.20 points to 92.30, while Chung Fu Tex-International Corp (TW:1435) slid 9.90% or 3.50 points to a 52-week low of 31.85.
Market breadth was negative, with declining stocks outpacing advancing ones on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
In commodities, crude oil for February delivery rose 0.43% or 0.30 to $69.76 per barrel. Brent oil for March delivery increased 0.37% or 0.27 to $72.83 per barrel. However, February Gold Futures edged down 0.17% or 4.41 to $2,640.69 per ounce.
On the currency front, the USD/TWD exchange rate rose 0.18% to 32.69, while TWD/CNY remained flat at 0.22. The U.S. Dollar Index Futures gained 0.16%, reaching 107.52.
