Mar 11 2024: Japanese stocks ended the trading session on Monday with losses, driven by declines in the Railway & Bus, Services, and Rubber sectors.
At the close of trading in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 index fell by 2.11%.
Among the top performers on the Nikkei 225 were Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (TYO:7912), which surged by 5.79% or 249.00 points to reach 4,550.00 by the close. Meanwhile, Teijin Ltd. (TYO:3401) rose by 3.87% or 51.00 points, closing at 1,367.50, and Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co Ltd (TYO:4506) gained 2.79% or 10.00 points to finish at 369.00 in late trading.
However, the session’s worst performers included Mitsui Mining and Smelting Co. (TYO:5706), which tumbled by 7.00% or 322.00 points to trade at 4,277.00 at the close. SoftBank Group Corp. (TYO:9984) declined by 6.04% or 554.00 points, closing at 8,625.00, and Toyota Tsusho Corp. (TYO:8015) dropped by 5.59% or 557.00 points, ending at 9,411.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, with 3139 stocks falling, 610 advancing, and 135 remaining unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which gauges the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, rose by 1.39% to 21.95, marking a new one-month high.
In commodities trading, crude oil for April delivery decreased by 0.54% or 0.42 to $77.59 a barrel. Brent oil for delivery in May also fell by 0.43% or 0.35 to hit $81.73 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract dropped by 0.01% or 0.20 to trade at $2,185.30 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY declined by 0.08% to 146.95, and EUR/JPY fell by 0.16% to 160.73.
The US Dollar Index Futures remained nearly unchanged, up by 0.01% at 102.34.
